Meet GitHub: the internet's collaboration home
What GitHub actually is (handbooks, laws and courses live there, not just code), the account-org-repo mental map, and the social layer of profiles and stars.
π Session 2 Β· foundationYour first repo + Markdown
Create your handbook repo in the browser, write the README front door, make commits with the green button, and learn the Markdown that covers 95% of daily writing.
π Session 3 Β· coreIssues + Projects
Issues as the universal todo list (not just bugs), labels, assignees and milestones, and Projects kanban boards - issue-driven work for non-dev teams.
π Session 4 Β· coreBranches + PRs without code
Safe copies, proposals instead of overwrites, line-level review and the merge button - how teams stop emailing final_v3_FINAL.docx forever.
π Session 5 Β· stretchPublish with GitHub Pages
Repo to live website through Settings alone - your handbook gets a real URL on the internet, with themes and in-browser editing of the live site.
π£οΈ Session 6 Β· stretchSpeak fluent GitHub
Read the green checks and install a robot, size up any repo's health in 90 seconds, and graduate with the ten-word phrasebook of dev-speak.
Choose your path πΊοΈ
Everyone starts at Session 1 - the mental map carries every other session.
β What this course is
Browser-only GitHub fluency: repositories, Markdown, issues and boards, pull requests and reviews, publishing with Pages, and repo literacy - reading any project's health and speaking the vocabulary. Everything a non-tech professional needs to work where modern teams work.
β What it is not
No git CLI, no code, no merge-conflict surgery, no Actions authoring, no Copilot - those live in the tech track, now live. Boundaries kept on purpose so the browser toolkit actually sticks.
